What's better on a Thursday night that quesa birria! So good! Usually their quesa birria special is on Friday so it was a pleasant surprise to have that special today! Also good is the steak chimichanga which never fails to impress!

We've been to their location in Kihei but hadn't stopped here before. Easy to find and quite a bit of close parking. The place is small and seems to do lots of takeout. The outside seating area was only for takeout. We were greeted and seated quickly, chips and salsa were already on the table. They have a huge menu but nothing on it about happy hour specials they offer. We asked waitess-i don't know if she was new or didn't want to promote happy hour but couldn't tell us what drinks or apps were on special only told us some are $1-$2 off, which I found strange(why I took one star away) I ordered the beef burrito, she asked of I wanted it wet with green or red salsa(this ended up coating $2.50) she then said do u want the beans and rice on the side(this also was added but was only $1.50-I thought was excluded in the plate but guess not) The burrito was very good and was big enough that I took half of it home. I know we'll stop again but not durring happy hour.

Haven't tried this Amigo's location although we've been to the Amigo's in Kihei several times. We decided to dine here because there was a panel discussion at Akaku Upstairs about cold composting and small farms later. We arrived at 5 pm and were seated right away. It was a bit of a surprise because the dining area is small, with limited seating. There is an outside lanai but the sign said it is for people waiting for take-out. Costanza greeted us at our table and gave us menus. She was very pleasant and had a beautiful smile. Chips & salsa were already on the table for us. Signage proclaimed Happy Hour but the menu had no mention of it. Their website had no details, either (we checked earlier). So, we asked Constanza about the Happy Hour specials. It was hard to pin her down on anything specific but margaritas would be 1 or 2 dollars off. I asked about beer (harder to water down beer) and some beer was 1 dollar or 2 off. So, what beer did I want? There was a Modelo sign. That seemed fine. Did I want a can or glass? A can would be fine. No, it's draft only. Okay, I'll have a glass. My wife settled for a glass of water. My beer arrived quickly and it was good. But, it must not have been included in Happy Hour because it showed up on the bill at $8. Oh, we asked about other Happy Hour specials. Some of the appetizers were 1 or 2 dollars off but she couldn't seem to tell us which ones. We decided to pass on the appetizers. I ordered the pork tamale plate and my wife wanted the burrito plate. Constanza asked if she wanted salsa on it. Sure, that sounds good. I gave her "the look" because we both remember the $3.50 charge for "wetting" a burrito in Amigo's in Kihei. It looked like a shot of the same salsa that came with our chips. Of course, there was an additional $3.50 charge for wetting her burrito. Anyway, the entrees were delicious. The tamales had shredded pork and were very good. The bill was odd because it was a-la-carte like. The 2 tamales were $7 each with a $2.50 charge to make it a plate. I didn't see anything broken down like that on the menu. Oh, and the burrito had its own extra $2.50 charge to make it a plate, too. Not a bad price for rice and beans, I suppose. Constanza was very friendly and gave us go boxes for our leftovers. The dining room had a March Madness game on the TV and Spanish music playing but the place didn't really fill up while we were there at dinner time. But, they had a better business with take-out customers. I guess these clever customers knew they could drink their own beer at home for less than $8.

This is our go-to Mexican spot in town. We normally order for pickup as we live nearby, so I can't say much about the interior/service. As for the takeout, we enjoy trying new items everytime, but we love the tacos and the burritos. Definitely come here to try some Mexican food when you're in Maui.
